Generation Dead is Daniel Water’s first novel and he did a bang up job! He captured the voices of teenagers who are navigating their way through the trials and tribulations of high school. The only difference between a regular high school and the high school in this book is that for some reason, and no one knows why – not even the scientists, SOME teenagers that die aren’t staying dead. They are referred to as “living impaired” or “differently biotic.”
Phoebe, a goth to the bone girl, is the main character of this interesting story. Adam is her best friend, football star, next door neighbor. Margi is her best friend. Together they experience life with the “differently biotic” – each are affected a different way.
Phoebe becomes fascinated and starts to fall for Tommy, the leader of the “differently biotic” kids. Since all of the zombies, as they like to call themselves, don’t come back the same – meaning some move and communicate better than others – Tommy makes sure some of the lower functioning ones aren’t left alone walking through the halls or in the cafeteria. Phoebe’s feelings for Tommy cause a lot of talk. People can’t believe she would want to have anything to do with a dead person.
Adam has to deal with Tommy in his own way. Tommy decides he wants to join the football team. The coach doesn’t want him to, of course, but the principal tells him he has no choice. Adam is the only player that gives Tommy a chance and sees what a great player he really is. The problem is, Adam starts to realize he has feelings that go beyond friendship for Phoebe and a love triangle is formed.
Margi can’t understand why Phoebe is warming up to the zombies. One of their best friends is one and Margi can’t seem to get past that Courtney was once alive and hung out with them all the time. She struggles to see what Phoebe likes about the zombies.
This fresh look at teen fiction contains it all. Light romance, paranormal oddities, danger, and suspense. Be sure to check this out as soon as it hits the shelf.

This book was amazing! I think this book could totally be a movie I would see. I did hate the ending where Adam died…. I also offically hate Tommy I mean he just stood ther with a gun pointed at Phoebe’s head he was only in the relationship for himself….. I also hated Pete I felt that his anger clouded up his better judgement, just because his girlfriend didn’t come back to life. I mean he most likely would have treated her just like the other “differently biotic” I just find the whole hate against them and yet he wishes his girlfriend was one of them, not to mention he cares to much of what people think to even try and have a relationship with his girlfriend if he came back to life.
I read this book as my summer reading and it was amaizing, my favorite character was adam with his actitude, i just loved how he had that love will counquer every time actitude, awesome book phoebe was kind of dumb for not going for adam instead of tommy.
they better make this into a movie and they better make a third book because i cant stop reading it. And i literally hate reading so this book is like the only one i will ever read. I didnt really liked adam because of wat he did i know that he had like major feelings for phoebe but he practically made phoebe think she has to love him. And he broke up Tommy and phoebe and i thought they were a beautiful couple.
did u know that there is a real Father Fitzpatrick, but he is dead now
WOW! This was an amazing book. The plot was AMAZING! I absolutely understood what Phoebe was going through. She is an amazingly strong character. And how Adam, the star football player moved from his arrogant ways. How everything portrayed high school drama from a new perspective is something new and I applaud the Author.
Continue to write more books to the public!! It will eventually change people and the way everything works in high school. If only the would make it an in-class novel study. Good job Daniel!!
ohmygawd i know right? I think Tommy and Phoebe are such a good couple! But i want Adam to be with her too! Ugh (: Well i would take tommy anyday ;D lol that would be so sweet if they made a movie!
I loved this book, I hope Kiss of Life is really good too. But I feel really bad about Evan and the people who love him.
this book is great! Even though im finish with it some times i just read it again i cant wait for kiss of life to come out!
actually….the next book is kiss of life not kiss of death
I got this book from my town library on a whim because i thought it sounded like an interesting book to read. I loved it, i read this book in two days and the second one Kiss of Life and i couldn’t stop reading it. My favourite character is Adam. I thought the storyline and characters was amazing and think they should deffinetly turn these books into movies.

Generation Dead is my favoritist book in the world except I don’t relate to everyone crying at the end of the book; I cried in the middle where Evan died. He was my favorite charector, and after he go “shredded” by Pete the book just wasn’t funny anymore. But maybe that was Mr. Waters idea as to referring to no zombie protection laws… I don’t know, but it’d be cool to meet him and ask him, as I am an amateur writer.
When i first saw Generation Dead, i was like…is that a good book, dosen’t look like it! Now, i think its a OK book, good enough to read. I’m currently reading Kiss of Life. So far, so good! My fave character is… Karen, Adam, or Pheobe, decide.
I think Adam and Pheobe should end up together…Tommy has….others.
Lol, I’m talking like a differently biotic person.
OMG ! loved the Book. Can’t wait to read the other. I’m so GLAD Adam Came Back Loved HIM.. thIS shoudl be a movie.
i didn’t like this book so much because its like it was based on the novel Twilight. It had the same “forbidden love” theme, it had weird, undead creatures, and it had the best guy friend who has feelings for the girl. so it sucked.
I loved this book I never really liked Phoebe she was always weird IMO. my fave character has to be Karen she was always the coolest and the books had the best storyline i just finished Passing Strange it was an awesome book very detailed and such but now i still have some questions i hope there is going to be a 4 th book
[...] GENERATION DEAD #1 KISS OF LIFE #2 [...]
this book is so good i think it should make be a movie…… they should make a Generation Dead 2……. i love this book
This is literally one of my favourite books ever.
I think the female characters are very strong in this, which I like because the girl’s are usually portrayed as being stupid and ditsy, but I like that Phoebe is different and smart. I also love that it still has all the typical characters you see in schools (goths, footballers, outcasts, regular students, people who choose to be outcasts). This book makes you feel a lot of things and allows you to make your own mind up about who is right and who’s wrong, because it explains the different perspectives on the living impaired issue. In other words, it doesn’t just tell you what to think, you can decide for yourself.
I think that you’re wrong saying these books are similar to twilight. Twilight has a female character (bella) who is incredibly clumsy and dependent on her boyfriend (edward) and i think that bella is the complete opposite end of the spectrum to smart, independent, strong girls like Phoebe and Karen who could do anything they wanted.
Generation Dead addresses real issues like discrimination and to compare it to something as shallow and meaningless as Twilight proves that you have no taste or common sense.
It was i really good book. It was refreshingly different from a lot of other books. It showed many different sides to the issue at hand, that being the living impaired, and really make you feel strongly about a lot of different charters. It had a HUGE cliff hanger which was great leading in to the sequel. i highly recommended this book.
i think the book was the best of the best. it helped me out with a lot of problems that i had beforre i read the book. i hope that all of my friends will read this book because it may help them or it may just be a great book to read. i cant wait until i rerad the next book.
I haven’t quit finished it yet but Im really liking it
I don’t know if it was different in whatever copy you read, but I believe the dead frinds name is COLETTE, not Courtney.
absolutely lovee this series!! while i was reading i would get so into it itd feel likee i was actually part of the storyy. im having mixed feelings about who should end up together Pheebes/adam or her and tommy /: . currently reading kiss of life and loving it (: keep up the wonderful work daniel
Omgosh They better make this into a movie. I am not even half way through the book and I LOVE it!! Thanks everyone for the spoilers.. Lol jokes.

I’d just like to point out that Phoebe and Margi’s friend that died is named Colette not Courtney.
this book was on eof the best books i have ever read. I think thw whole seires could be made into a movie. This book can teach many people many different things about teenage life. XD i love all three books
(Generation Dead) (Kiss Of Life) and (Passing Strange)
This seires is amazing its better then twilight and i havent read twilight but still this is the best seires in da world!!!!
I hope the books could be turned in to movies, because allot of people are missing out on the stories beacuse they dont like to read, but if u introduce the seires into a movie alot of ppl will start to read books because the movie looked interesting they will read the book. The reason they would read the book is, because the book gives more information.
So that is what i have to say about the sieres of Generation Dead!!!! XD
I love this series! i have all three books. The Sons of Romero are my favorite if this was turned into a movie i would just die! lmao it would suck if they messed it up though like what they didnt to twilight and percy jackson hopefully the houseofnight series will be better than those ^ there is a song that reminds me tak which is ironically called “Generation Dead” by Five Finger Death Punch. it describes the book perfectly
