Generation Dead is Daniel Water’s first novel and he did a bang up job! He captured the voices of teenagers who are navigating their way through the trials and tribulations of high school. The only difference between a regular high school and the high school in this book is that for some reason, and no one knows why – not even the scientists, SOME teenagers that die aren’t staying dead. They are referred to as “living impaired” or “differently biotic.”
Phoebe, a goth to the bone girl, is the main character of this interesting story. Adam is her best friend, football star, next door neighbor. Margi is her best friend. Together they experience life with the “differently biotic” – each are affected a different way.
Phoebe becomes fascinated and starts to fall for Tommy, the leader of the “differently biotic” kids. Since all of the zombies, as they like to call themselves, don’t come back the same – meaning some move and communicate better than others – Tommy makes sure some of the lower functioning ones aren’t left alone walking through the halls or in the cafeteria. Phoebe’s feelings for Tommy cause a lot of talk. People can’t believe she would want to have anything to do with a dead person.
Adam has to deal with Tommy in his own way. Tommy decides he wants to join the football team. The coach doesn’t want him to, of course, but the principal tells him he has no choice. Adam is the only player that gives Tommy a chance and sees what a great player he really is. The problem is, Adam starts to realize he has feelings that go beyond friendship for Phoebe and a love triangle is formed.
Margi can’t understand why Phoebe is warming up to the zombies. One of their best friends is one and Margi can’t seem to get past that Courtney was once alive and hung out with them all the time. She struggles to see what Phoebe likes about the zombies.

okay. i loved the book! cant wait for the next one to come out. the ended was upsetting. Pete is a nut job, I don’t care why he hates the differently biotic but he is not only messed up in the head but he shoots adam.
Phoebe is a cool girl. but she cant like tommy. that is not only making me sick but what about adam?
adam is my favorite. he takes a bullet for phoebe and loves but is to shy to tell her. even though now that he is a zombie him and phoebe need to go out.
tommy is wierd i mean why did he say “i thought that if i could get a girl a real girl to love me to kiss me i’d come back even more?” HE’S DEAD! okayyy not only is he dead but he is ruining the opportunity of adam and phoebe getting together.
i loved the book. i cant wait for KISS OF LIFE to come out. you are a talented writer. I was crying at the end of the book. i just want you to know you have a gift of grabbing the readers attention and emotion. i am literally counting down the days til KISS OF LIFE comes out. although i am mad that adam dies and comes back as a zombie you are still one of my favorite authors.
okayy whoever first of all says phoebe and adam shouldnt be together is a whack job! HELLO HE JUMPED IN FRONT OF HER SO SHE WOULDNT BE SHOT!! and what did tommy do? stare at her. yeah thats what i thought. who is the better man here? ummm ADAM ding ding ding we have a winner!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! not only does tommy kinda USE phoebe but he hasnt known her for that long.
adam would do anything to make phoebe happy. he even says “Ill listen to groups like Restless Dead and Zombicide and the Drumming Mummies or whatever, and I’ll wear black and burn incense if i have to. Ill go have my tarot cards read and Ill pay attention to Daffy like she was an incredibly interesting and insightful savant instead of just some chattering goof.” he really loves phoebe and would do anything for her and he would do anything to make her happy. Tommy isnt the same way. he just doesnt have the same kind of love for phoebe that adam does.
oh and p.s. i have to say this and the twilight series are top on my favorite books list!!!!!
all of you who cried im with you. i bawled so hard i couldnt see what i was reading so then i had to put the book down and take deep breaths. i also loved how insane pete went by thinking phoebe was julie.
your writing skills amaze me!!

phoebe and adam should get together in the next one. and then so should tommy and karen:) karen reminds me of a nice rosalie (from the twilight saga) because of the way they describe her as beautiful and all. yadda yadda yadda. phoebe reminds me of alice (twilight saga) because she is nice and stuff. adam reminds me of emmett (from the twilight saga) becuase he is a jock, big, funny, and is always sarcastic. Plus he always brings sarcasm to an emotional situation. Margi reminds me of Jessica (from the twilight saga) because she talks way too much.
keep writing daniel. you are the man!!

Omg I loved this book and I can’t wait til Kiss of Life comes out!! I hope Phoebe falls for Adam. Clearly he has loved her ever since childhood and I hope that they become a couple. I feel for Tommy but I would rather see Phoebe with Adam. After all he did take a bullet for Phoebe. I hope that they fall in love. And Tommy finds that to but not with Phoebe. Daniel waters did a great job with this book I thought. However I hate the end, i wanna know what’s going on now with Adam as a DB! Moreover I’m really disapointed that he’s dead =’(

i like tommy at the beganing .. but as the book went i felt as though .. he was using pheobe .. to look normal , be able to feel normal for himself , and he always talk about her as an abotic girl , never just pheobe . i felt as though thats all he saw in her and he only wanted her for tth reason only .where was adam alwayz liked her and near the ned of the book he is even willing to change himself for her !!

This is one of my favorite books and I think it should become a movie. I think it’s better than that stupid Twilight series by Stephanie Meyers or whatever. And I’m writing my own novel and hopefully someday it will live up to your book.
I try to make as non cheesy as possible, I thought your book is awsome. I totally loved it. I may say that about everybook ive read but thats because its true. If i had enough money i would buy an entire bookstore all for myself. At the moment I own 190 books and plan to own over 200 by the end of the summer. Pretty much all i ever do is read. people say im in a sort of trance when i read. Many people think i will be a writer when i grow but i dont know where to start. I just graduated from 8th grade and at the reception thay all made me promise if i ever was published to send them the first copies. I look for inspiration from my fav writers. Its hard to pic just one but I have to say its you and melissa marr and meg cabot. Just so you got the memo i so loved ur book and cant wait for kiss of life. ive been bouncing off waiting for it.
I think you are right. Twilight is getting old with people talking non stop about it. I try to never get obsessed with something. What happens is you by all the items connected to whatever your obseesed with and then something better comes along and then you have to buy new stuff to go along with it. the cycle just keeps repeating over and over. Though this book is so totally awsome

If it were me I would dump Tommy without any hesitations and be with Adam. That's what everyone would do, but Phoebe is just too stupid. I really didn't like her after i found out that she wanted to choose between them… I feel sorry for Margi for having to be friends with such a stupid-head.
I haven't read the second book yet, and I can't WAIT to read it.

You have to start somewhere though, so i thought it was okay
and for the most part, he did a pretty good job making it interesting.
Overall, I enjoyed reading this book and I am glad that i chose to. My favorite characters would definitely have to be Tommy and Adam. I really liked Tommy and Phoebe together at first, until I discovered that he didn’t truly love her… I would love to read the second book to see how things turn out in the love triangle between Phoebe, Adam and Tommy. I wonder if Phoebe and Adams relationship will be accepted.I didn’t really like Pete, he was annoying throughout the book. Thus, he was necessary, because he played as an antagonist throughout the novel. Another character I found interesting was Karen. She was unlike any other zombie. I wish this books front cover was of all the characters, so that way I could have had an image of each person/zombie in my head, while reading the book.One chapter i found very interesting, was the one where they went to club “Oxo-Boxo”. If I were Phoebe at this point, I would have been very nervous. I liked how Tommy showed Phoebe how it felt to be dead. This chapter showed how much Phoebe liked Tommy because she really had trust in him. All in all, this book was pretty good. I wouldn’t refer it to people, but I am happy i had the opportunity to read it.
