I’ve done this activity once before after seeing it on The Story Siren and thought I’d use this as the first Prize Winning Activity for the Holiday Break Reading Challenge. For those of you that want to know more about the Reading Challenge, click HERE.
Here are the directions for the Create a Cover activity.
1 – Go to “Fake Name Generator” or click http://www.fakenamegenerator.com/
The name that appears is your author name.
2 – Go to “Random Word Generator” or click http://www.websitestyle.com/parser/randomword.shtml
The word listed under “Random Verb” is your title.
3 – Go to “FlickrCC” or click http://flickrcc.bluemountains.net/index.php
Type your title into the search box. The first photo that contains a person is your cover.
4 – Use Picnik, or something similar to put it all together. Be sure to crop and/or zoom in.
In terms of the activity for the Reading Challenge, I’m asking the participants to create the cover and write a short synopsis to go along with it. Here is my attempt.
Reggie, the drummer in an up and coming local band, enjoys the perks that come along with the spotlight. Food, friends, and fun are the three things he lives for, but when he sees Sadie standing in the crowd during a seemingly typical gig, life as he knows it changes very quickly. Sadie introduces Reggie to a life he never knew existed. Soon, what he once held dear no longer matters. His only thought is Sadie and the urge he feels whenever she is near.

Karin, the cover looks good. I have an audience for it. When do you change your name and write the novel?
This is my favorite cover so far! I would totally buy this book for the cover.
Love the cover.
Very cool. I love it!
