Who doesn’t love a good, spine-tingling ghost story? There are so many out there that it is sometimes hard to choose what to read. To make matters worse, there isn’t even just one type of ghost story out there. You have your choice of silly ghost stories, creepy ghost stories, romantic ghost stories, and even some that bring in historical fiction elements. Below I’ll try to offer a couple from each of the above categories. What I need you to do is tell me what I’ve left off the list.
GENERIC
CREEPY

ROMANTIC

Okay everyone, start adding to the list.

A humor one to add is Eva Ibbottson’s Dial-A-Ghost for middle grade readers. It was rather funny, and it’s been out for a while. Humor
I’ve heard things about A Certain Slant of Light, as it’s apparently a teen ghost story. Romance
John, thanks for the suggestions. As soon as you mentioned A CERTAIN SLANT OF LIGHT I slapped my head with my palm. I LOVED that story. It should totally be in the romantic ghost story category!
No problem. After some Amazon scanning (and many TBR additions – curse you amazon), I would look into The Everafter by Amy Huntley and I Heart You, You Haunt Me by Lisa Schroeder and Chasing Brooklyn by Lisa Schroeder. From the looks of it, she writes ghost stories written in prose format quite often.
And for people who like the idea of death in general, The Mark by Jen Nadol. Not ghosts exactly, but the concept of seeing when someone is about to die fits in interestingly. I’ve also heard good things about Before I Fall by Lauren Oliver, which involves a girl dying and reliving her last day of life. Again, not exactly a ghost story, but along the same lines in terms of plot exploration and such.
Hope these help!
