MONSTERS OF MEN is the wonderful conclusion to the Chaos Walking Trilogy. It picks up where THE ASK AND THE ANSWER leaves off – right at the beginning of WAR! The Spackle, the Answer, and the Mayor’s army are all converging on New Prentisstown and Todd and Viola are stuck in the middle.
Patrick Ness creates the same heart-pounding suspense in this novel as he did in the first two in the trilogy. Multiple points of view give the reader a full understanding of what is happening.
Be sure to set aside a block of time when you start this book – or the first two for that matter. Once I started, I didn’t want to stop. I was so worried for Viola and Todd throughout the story. I was stressed and cringed as I got further into the story – afraid for what Patrick Ness had in store for them. Patrick Ness made me growl in frustration and brought me to tears. MONSTERS OF MEN ended perfectly!

DO you KNOW how jealous my students and I are that you know how this series ends?? I may give them your address to go talk to you!! You’re so lucky.
Ohhh I so can’t wait to read this. Fantastic Review!!
God, I know exactly what you mean, about the truck and everything.
I read the whole effing series in 6 days. I did nothing but eat sleep and read. I have to admit I also got that Bastian feeling
I sometimes get a bit depressed that one billionth of the universe makes me excited and makes me feel alive and that 99% of this is in other people’s heads. But boy did this make me feel alive. The end of the last book was phenomenal -mind you so was the whole of the rest of the book and the ones before it!
I know I have no one else to blame but myself but I finished these books WAY TO QUICKLY. When I finished I could not stop thinking about it so I tried reading another book to take my mind off it. What can I say? It just wasn’t the same. So [hint hint Patrick Ness] I really want to read another one. Now obviously it can’t be the same series because that would kind of spoil that great ending but something like it is surely possible!
One of the things I particularly liked was the relationship between Todd and Viola [my name too
]. I’m not really a fan of the whole romantic genre but it was done in such a way that it was heart-warming and heartbreaking at the same time. I thought it was done so well done, the way that it was such a big part of the story whilst at the same time being so discrete that it didn’t distract from the rest of the story. I completely loved it.
I am an avid reader and I don’t think I have ever read a book like this.
Simply phenomenal.
